This famous Ayappa ( deity ) temple of central travancore , is situated in meenthalakara 2km east away from the bustling town of Thiruvalla , in a place abounding with the freshness of the country side. The temple vazhipadu (ceremonial gratitude): Believers and pilgrims from far and near lands perform a vazhipadu called the Niranjanem vazhipadu which is done to terminate Shani dosham (an ill fate related to Saturdays). |
| This vazhipadu is usually done on Saturdays, but it is done even on other weekdays with the same vehemence. It is believed that if you light the niranjanem for the Meenthalakara Shasthav , no shani dosham would befall on you. There are many and varied folklores related to this temple.(check historical events ). |
