N.S.S. Hindu College, Changanacherry is the earliest among the centres of higher education set up by the Nair Service Society. Sri. Mannathu Padmanabhan was its found and the presiding genius for about seven decades. It began as a Pre-University School in June 1947. Consequent to the abolition of the Pre-University course in Dec. 1948, it was upgraded as a second grade College, preparing candidates for the intermediate examination of the erstwhile University of Travancore.
In the last 52 years of its glorious existence, the N.S.S. Hindu College has earned a niche for itself in the academic and social life of Central Kerala. This prestigious institution has the distinction of being the largest college under Mahatma Gandhi University. The College was started with just 254 students and a few staff. Now the student strength of the college is about 3000. The number of teaching staff is 170 and non-teaching staff is 83. |
